60-Second Interview with triathlete Lauren Barnett

Scicon ambassador Lauren Barnett is a rising star on the long-distance triathlon circuit having turned pro only 3 years ago and has already had numerous wins and many more podium spots including 1st place at Ironman 70.3 Augusta and 1st at Ironman 70.3 New Orleans in 2014.

Lauren takes a minute out of her busy training and racing schedule to talk workout tunes, good luck charms and bike bags.

Biggest fear? A fear of not having water within reach… (I’m always thirsty) and not having a bathroom nearby (Granny Bladder Syndrome- probably because of the former mentioned fear!)

Greatest obstacle? Overcoming the boundries I place on my percieved abilities. I have learned that sometimes I am my own greatest inhibitor and I shouldn’t place limitations on what I can and can’t do!

Superstitions? I’ve never been superstitious!

Biggest achievement? My proudest moment was marrying my husband Brandon.

Favourite cycling destination? Hands down it would be staying at Hotel Domestique in Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina and riding all over Greenville, especially in the Fall.

Favourite song to work out to? I use the 8-tracks app a lot and change it up based on my mood, but I love mashups!

Spirit animal? I’ll go with dolphin since 2016 is going to be the year of my swimming breakthrough!

Good luck charm? I always wear my lucky Flash Tattoos while racing! In the midst of working hard to stretch my limits, they add an element of fun and glam. The flash tats serve as a reminder that racing is what I love, the sport is my passion and I don’t have to do this – I GET to.

One thing nobody knows? We just moved from Dallas to Kansas City and in the home we recently bought and remodeled, there is a carpet in the basement that is designed to look just like hardwood. But it’s carpet! It’s absolutely hideous but we will have to wait until phase 2 of our remodel! We call it the “Carp-wood”… it was going to be our best kept secret, but now everyone knows since you asked!

Never have I ever… successfully completed a DIY project.

Best thing about having a Scicon bike bag? The convenience factor of the Scicon bag is unbeatable… with all the global travel I do – it is the simplest way to pack a bike safely and travel without any headache!
