Jenson Button to compete at Ironman 70.3 World Championships
This September will see a famous sportsman who’s usually looking for speed in a much different race format line-up at the half-Ironman distance triathlon World Championships in America. Former Fomula 1 World Champion Jenson Button, racing for the Ichiban Triathlon Team, this season qualified to compete at the World Championships, to be held on 10th September in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Aiming for victory in the M35-39 age group category, Button will be travelling to and from the U.S. using the Scicon AeroComfort Triathlon 3.0 TSA Bike Travel Bag.
Despite being disqualified for ‘speeding’ at a qualification event in Oceanside, California, the 2009 F1 World Champion won his age category at the following event in Santa Rosa, allowing him to qualify for the Chattanooga race. Having initially started doing triathlon as a way to supplement his fitness training for F1, Button has developed into an international athlete in the discipline.
Button races for the Ichiban Triathlon Team, an endurance racing concept that he developed together with a variety of athletes from around the world, including fellow racing driver and Scicon Bags ambassador Chris Buncombe. The team races key long distance triathlon events around the world and is supported in its travel needs by Scicon Bags, providing custom bag solutions for the team’s race bikes and equipment needs while training and racing.
Button will line up in Chattanooga alongside teammate Jano Soto, and on behalf of the entire Scicon Bags team, we wish both athletes the best of luck on race day.SHOP NOW
