Made of Metal: Alessandro Degasperi’s #RoadToKona
Some races are won before they begin. While the crowd is cheering and the other triathletes are preparing, Alessandro is already racing. In his head, as he stands at the shoreline, he visualizes his race: diving into the water, pedalling forward then pounding the concrete, propelled by relentless ambition.
Elite Long distance triathlete Alessandro Degasperi AKA ‘Il Dega’ is making his way from Predazzo in the heart of the Italian Dolomites to the Hawaiian island of Kona this year for the Ironman World Championships with his sights firmly set on a podium spot. He’s already podiumed 3 times at the European 70.3 Championships alongside taking first place at IM Lanzarote & IM 70.3 Salzburg in the past few years. Competing in the elite category at KONA is the end point for most triathletes but Degasperi says:
Kona is not a point of arrival but a new starting point.
He’ll be travelling to Kona with his Bianchi Aquila packed safely into his Scicon AeroTech Evolution TSA bike case
Having my bike arrive in one piece at Kona is of utmost importance. It’s not easy to get spare or replacement bike parts when you’re on a volcano in the middle of the Pacific ocean. That’s why I’ll be journeying there with Scicon Bags.
