60-Second Interview With Trek Factory Racing Rider Matthew Busche

Matthew Busche went from amateur to pro in the space of two years. He was originally a cross-country runner but suffered from an injury which led him to pick up a bike. The rest is history and there’s more history to be made. With a win at the US Pro Championships in 2011 alongside many other podium positions since, Matthew also made his debut at last year’s Tour De France and is hungry for more.

We managed to grab 60 seconds with this rising cycling star. We talk mountain goats, driving golf carts into ponds and, of course, the AeroComfort 2.0 bike bag.

Biggest fear? –Failure

Greatest obstacle? – Food. It fuels us as athletes, but we have to be careful with it! My love of cooking makes it a challenge not to indulge.

Superstitions? – None

Biggest achievement? – Winning the US road championship in 2011.

Favourite cycling destination? – Anywhere in the mountains really. I am blessed to have experienced many beautiful places, but one I’d like to really see is the Italian mountains.

Favourite song to work out to? –  I don’t usually listen to music while riding. I never did as a runner and that has carried over to my riding.

Spirit animal? – Mountain goat. I’m a little bit stubborn and I love to climb to high places.

Good luck charm? – My wedding ring.

One thing nobody knows? – I once drove a golf cart into a pond. I could have sworn it was in reverse!

Never have I ever… – Swam in the Pacific Ocean.

Best thing about having a Scicon bike bag? – Convenience/ease of use!

Matthew travels with the Scicon AeroComfort 2.0
