60-Second Interview with Orica GreenEDGE Rider Simon Clarke
Aussie rider Simon Clarke started off as a track cyclist later converting to road and is currently riding for Orica-GreenEDGE having joined from Astana. His talent was spotted at a young age as he was given a scholarship for the Australian Institute for Sport.
At the 2012 Vuelta, Clarke won the fourth stage of the race and continued on to place first at the first three categorised climbs which secured him the blue polka dot jersey- the second Australian to do so. Simon describes himself as “not a climber but an opportunist”. We at Scicon, took the opportunity to get in touch with Simon with our quick-fire set of interview questions and this is the result:
Biggest fear? The day I run out of challenges.
Greatest obstacle? The amount of time I spend away from home.
Superstitions? Bad Karma.
Biggest achievement? Stage and KOM jersey at the 2012 Vuelta & TTT and the 2013 Tour de France.
Favourite cycling destination? Andorra
Favourite song to work out to? Generally anything produced by Ministry of Sound.
Spirit animal? Unicorn.
Good luck charm? A little toy elephant that travels in my race bag.
One thing nobody knows? I love eggs, but I’m intolerant to egg whites…
Never have I ever… Seen any Star Wars movie.
Best thing about having a Scicon bike bag? You know your bike is always in good hands when travelling.
