60- Second Interview with Cannondale-Garmin Rider Dan Martin

Dan Martin- you couldn’t meet a nicer guy really. Not only is he incredibly down-to-earth, he’s also a fantastically talented rider with a list of wins as long as your arm. He’s won a stage at the 2011 Vuelta, the 2013 Tour de France, overall classification a the 2010 alongside various one-day races, the most recent being last year’s Giro di Lombardia.

He takes 60 seconds out of his busy training and racing schedule to talk to us about his lucky number 9, Liege, the AeroComfort 2.0 and pandas (obviously).

Greatest obstacle?  The 1km 15% average climb up to my house in Andorra at the end of a 6 hour ride.

Superstitions?  Number 9 seems to have come up a lot in my career and life. I won stage 9 TDF and the Vuelta. 99th Liege-Bastogne-Liege. The 81st lombardia (8+1=9). Being Irish, the shamrock is also lucky.

Biggest achievement? My biggest sporting achievement is winning Liege. In life, convincing my girlfriend to actually be my girlfriend.

Favourite cycling destination? Changes all the time. Dublin when the weather is good. Andorra for the mountains. Girona for the beach rides.

Favourite song to work out to? Never really work out to music!

Spirit animal? Panda

Good luck charm? I don’t really have one. I wouldn’t want to as what happens when you forget it? I have a shamrock on my helmet though!

One thing nobody knows? If I told you then you would all know it!

Never have I ever… Cheated at anything.

Best thing about having a Scicon bike bag? Wheeling it through the airport with ease.

Dan Martin travels with the AeroComfort 2.0 TSA. He shares his thoughts on this bike bag in a seperate video interview from 2014 below.
